How do I get my Site at the top of Google?
The Websites we write are Search Engine Friendly, which means that Google understands the Website and can easily extract the text it requires.
To have a successful Goggle page ranking for a noncompetitive phrase such as "Uxbridge Fish Market", would be quite easy. A quick Google search shows that nobody else has a Website on this subject, so you would, by default, get to the #1 position on Google. To be successful for a highly competitive phrase such as "Apple ipod", would be almost impossible, even with help of an SEO (Search Engine Optimization) professional.
Note:You can improve the page rank of your site by increasing the number of high-quality, related sites that link to your pages. I stress the word related.
How do I choose a domain name?
A domain name tells the surfer your geographical location. For example, if you are using a .com name it is more likely that you are based in the USA whereas a .co.uk domain would be based in the UK. A domain name also tells a Search Engine how relevant your Website is to your subject area.
For example, lets assume you sold frozen peas, and you bought the domain www.frozenpeas.co.uk.
Your domain name clearly reflects your Website content, and it would benefit your Google Page Ranking for the keywords [frozen & peas].
I often get asked whether to use dashes or underscores in domain names. Personally, I think it's a bad idea unless you really have to. Surfers often get confused by dashes in domain names, sometimes forgetting them altogether and visiting a totally different Website!
